Yesterday morning, I was still in bed when my phone started ringing. It was Lauren; they are staying next door because their air conditioning has broken. She said, “Mom, I am going to send one of the kids over to get laundry detergent.” Shortly after, Dylan came in the door. Within the next 20 minutes, Eva, Max, and Kate came in for some snacks (my pantry is the snack shack full of anything and everything you may want). They finished up, and they left. I sat down to finish what was now my cold coffee and saw Barrett riding across the backyard in the golf cart. I opened the door, and he said, “Cupcake, Mom needs dishwashing detergent pods.”
I thought, wow, what a start to the morning, but then I said There is no place like home. They know that the only cost involved is a smile, as Katie said.
To be very honest, I miss home. Both my parents have passed away, so I really don’t have anywhere to go. I have worked hard to create a space within walls to be a home for our family.
Through the years, when we have dealt with situations that left us pondering certain things, I have always responded with “let’s go home,” or one of the girls has said, “I just want to go home.” Or now, when they need something, they know I am the keeper of anything you need, physically or emotionally. Anna is a few hours away, but she will still put her 3 little boys in the car to drive down the road, cross two rivers, and go through some woods to get to Cupcake’s house.
There is always room for everyone at our home; the door is always open, and the table is for anyone who walks through our doors. We have plenty of room for everyone.
As I was searching through scriptures, I was led to John 14.
John 14:1-4 The Road the message-
14 1-4 “Don’t let this rattle you. You trust God, don’t you? Trust me. There is plenty of room for you in my Father’s home. If that weren’t so, would I have told you that I’m on my way to get a room ready for you? And if I’m on my way to get your room ready, I’ll come back and get you so you can live where I live. And you already know the road I’m taking.”

The writer states this about John 14: This promise is not only about our heavenly lodging. The word translated in John 14:2 as “home” or “house” refers not only to a building in which to live but also to the families who dwell in it. Jesus invites us into the family of God, an invitation we can accept now, even as we await a greater fullness of family life in the future. You and I have the opportunity to be brothers and sisters in the family of God, beloved children of our heavenly Father. In this sense, we can be at home with the Lord today. And, indeed, there is no place like home!
It is not just about the home it is about who lives in it. Is God in your home?
God invites us every day into His home, into His family. This invitation waits for you to make that decision every day. We can be in God’s family. With God, we are never homeless. Our homes aren’t limited to real estate but to our relationship with God.
As Moses opened his prayer in Psalm 90, he declared that God has always been our home. He is our dwelling place. God is our home for past, present, and future generations.
So, whether you have family next door or your old home is gone, we are always invited into God’s home. And He says, “Come as you are; my door is always open.”
So this week, remember when you need some comfort and peace, say Let’s Go Home to our family of God. And start every day by being in His Word, serving others, and filling your cup.
