My granddaughter Kate is 2 and is in the princess phase. She loves all princesses but especially mermaids. Her favorite song is Let It Go from the movie Frozen. This weekend, all the grandkids were at the house, and Kate was right in the middle, singing with a microphone, “Let It Go, Let It Go.”
I started to think, when I was driving to Little Rock on Saturday, about how fabulous it would be to let it go, let everything go that hinders us, that holds us back, that stresses us.
I’m not going to lie; this is a lesson I need to learn and must repeat to myself every day. I have anxiety, and I worry about everything. I have learned many coping mechanisms, and I know that I must have my alone time for periods of time to let go.
In Matthew 6:25-34, during the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says, ” Do not worry about your life and concludes by telling us not to be anxious about tomorrow because each day has enough troubles of its own.
Jesus points to the birds and the flowers to show that God provides for them, so of course he provides for us. He also reminds us that worrying can’t add a single hour to our lives. Matthew 6:34 says, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Instead of holding onto anxious control, he tells us to seek first his kingdom and his righteousness.
Not only does Jesus tell us not to worry, but He also equips us with the tools we need when we face stressful situations. He equips us with His armor so that we can take our stand against the devil’s schemes, as in Ephesians 6:11. He also tells us in 2 Timothy 2:3 to endure hardships like a good soldier of Jesus. In 1 Timothy 6:12, He says to fight the good fight of faith.
Even though we may struggle with anxiety, it is important to remember that what we are called to do, we do through God’s power, not our own strength. Letting go is often just as challenging and demanding as anything else we attempt.
While we know that God works all things for good, we are called to have faith in His plan and purposes. He loves us, He is in control of every circumstance, and He invites us to rest in the peace that surpasses all understanding. We remind ourselves of these truths, but living them out can still be a daily challenge.
We must be the branch that is always connected to the vine to be able to hand everything to God and then let it go.
Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door
I don’t care what they’re going to say
Let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway
The storm will still rage, and the cold will still be bitter, but we can let it go because God has equipped us with what we need to endure hardships like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
So, this week, let it go by:
- Starting every day with Him in His word
- Serving others just as Jesus did
- Fill your cup
As Father Mike says, I will pray for you; you pray for me
As Tara Leigh Cobble says, he’s where the joy is.
Never forget cupcake loves you, and so does Jesus.
