As Jana turned and walked down the hall of the office, she looked back and said, “You better just hang on for the ride!”
Wow, I felt as if God had just spoken to me through her. Just hang on sister!
Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
TRUST: firm belief, confidence, assurance, faith
UNDERSTANDING: knowing, grasp, mastery, comprehension
DIRECT: verb- manage, control
When we trust God and not try to determine our purpose things will line up before our eyes.
1 Peter 4:10 New Living Translation (NLT)
10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.
EACH: referred to everyone, identified separately
USE THEM: do something, used for purpose
At some point in our lives, we question, “Just what is my purpose?”
We will try to rush our purpose, we will try to manipulate our purpose, we will try to decide ourselves what our purpose is, however we can’t. God is in control of our purpose because He created us with specific skills and talents just for us. We are to use our skills and talents to serve others.
You may be saying “How do I know what I am to do?” There are a few ways to become closer to knowing your purpose.
In an article written by Chris Russell, Chris gives eight steps to knowing your purpose. I have taken his eight keys condensed and explained.
One you have to keep your daily appointment. Meeting and walking with God every day draws you closer to Him and to hear His voice. Through this everyday experience, your trust, faith, and obedience will increase. Next, you have to surrender your will. You are walking this earth for Him not for you. His will be done- no matter what you think. Next step back and evaluate you. What are your gifts and talents? What does your heart feel? God works within our gifts and talents and intersects our passion with them. Of course, He does, He is the one who uniquely created you for HIS PURPOSE! Lastly look at what circumstances surround you. When God places us in certain situations we are to do something with them. Don’t waste an opportunity to do God’s work.
JOSEPH
Joseph was the youngest, and his older siblings were not fond of him. So, what did they do they first plotted to kill him but then decided to sell him into slavery. Sold, gone and the brothers took Josephs coat of many colors to their father and said an animal had devoured him.
Joseph went through many trials but always held on to his faith. He was betrayed and deserted by his family, he was exposed to sexual temptation and punished for doing right, he endured a long imprisonment and was forgotten by those he helped. But during all of these, he held on, kept his faith and responded positively.
During each part of the ride, Joseph knew that God was with him.
