Last week my oldest grandson Barrett was excited to tell me that he won his class spelling bee. After he told me about winning, he said, “Cupcake guess what word I got to win?”
I said, “What word?” Barrett replied more excited than him telling me he won; I got the word disability!
For those that don’t know Barrett’s little brother is Jack and he has a disability. Barrett is fully aware about disabilities.
On the way to school Barrett and I talked about him getting the word disability. I told him that getting the word disability was God showing up. We visited about how we never know how God will show up. He is active and present every day.
We shouldn’t be surprised when things like the word disability appears. God showing up isn’t something we plan, it doesn’t have a timeline, it isn’t expected, it can be sudden because God is on active duty 24/7.
Another example is when Lauren and I were driving back to my friend Laura’s house during the last week of Stringers life. Lauren was questioning how she knew it was time to quit fighting this fight. As we both looked over to the right where the Goodwill store was located, we saw the neon lights of the Good Will sign shining however one of the o’s was burned out, so it read GOD WILL. We knew right then that it was God’s will not ours.
The presence of God in the unexpected gives us hope for God in the future in the life eternal. We need these little glimpses of Him to lead us through the times that are difficult.
Think about Moses and the burning bush. (Exodus 3) It wasn’t unusual for a bush to be on fire in the desert climate so Moses could have just walked on and ignored it. But as he stopped and looked Moses realized the bush wasn’t being consumed. God spoke to Moses when he stopped and took the time to look. How many times do we miss how God shows up because we just don’t take the time to look?
God is always working. It may not be something magnificent. He may show up in a spelling word or a Good Will sign. Do your part stop, look, and notice. Because we never know where God will show up.
Since He shows up for us remember:
1. Show up for JESUS – Start your day in the Word.
2. Show up for OTHERS – Serve others, whether they are like you or not, whether they annoy you or are difficult to understand. That is what Jesus did; He showed up for everyone.
3. Show up for YOU – You need to fill your cup before you can help fill others’ cups.
WE WILL FIND JOY WHEN WE SHOW UP FOR JESUS, OTHERS, AND OURSELVES.
As Father Mike says, “You pray for me, and I will pray for you.”
And as Tara Leigh says He’s where the joy is.
Have a great week, Cupcake loves you.
