THE WRONG WAY
We were driving from Arkansas to Louisiana. We had driven over four hours and had two hours left to go, no problems. It was dusk, and we were in between Natchez and Baton Rouge on a 4 lane. I looked and said to myself, “Is that a car coming towards me?” It couldn’t be, but yes it was. A small car was driving the wrong way on a four-lane with no lights on. I started to flash my lights, but the car did nothing but keep on going. I looked in my rearview mirror to see the cars behind me begin to scatter. Scary!!!!!!
We may not be actually driving the wrong way but are we going the right direction? Are we showing others the right way or are we pushing them to drive down the interstate backward with their lights off? How do we really see things the right way or the wrong way? What does our perspective of this life look like? Better than that how do others see us?
I met with Geovanni Friday about coffee, or I thought I was meeting about developing a coffee for me and Pass on Joy; however, it ended up being about much more. I realized I was going the wrong way with many of my thoughts.
For example. I have been looking for help with everything we have going on. Did you hear that I have been looking; therefore, I have been going the wrong way. I am not supposed to be looking. I am to be praying for people who are passionate about what I am doing to come looking for me. Those that have a passion and purpose just as I do.
I look at numbers. How many are noticing on social media what we are doing. I was researching numbers the wrong way. I needed to realize that it’s not about the numbers. It’s not about how many likes or how many comments or how many shares. It is about the number of people I touch. The number of people that I make a difference in their life. It is about relationships that matter not the number.
I was looking for a coffee to put in the perk me up box. The wrong way again. I shouldn’t be looking for just a coffee to put in a box. I should be looking for products that make a difference. Anyone can go out and buy coffee, but in this box, you can buy a coffee that shifts the life of many.
So how do we make sure we aren’t going the wrong way? How do we make sure we are looking forward going in the right direction?
Listening to the video from Lysa Terkeurst book IT’S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THIS WAYLysa referred to Jesus when he was at the Garden of Gethsemane. He told Peter, James and John to stay here and keep watch.
Mark 14:32-34 New International Version (NIV)
32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”
What were they watching for? Were they watching for those that were coming to get Jesus? We know what happens after this, however was Jesus telling them to watch for His enemies or to watch Him? Were they to watch how Jesus handles life between two gardens as Lysa says it?
Shouldn’t we all be watching and doing as Jesus does?
Hebrews 3:1 New International Version (NIV)
3 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest
When FIXing YOUR THOUGHTS ON JESUS the wrong way can be eliminated. When was the last time you truly fixed your thoughts on Him? When was the last time you looked at what was really significant, that which really mattered?
Hebrews 12:1-2 New International Version (NIV)
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
To live effectively we must keep FIXING OUR EYES ON JESUS. When we fix our eyes on Him, we will not stumble. When we are staring at the ways of Jesus, we are able to see clearly. If we look away and focus on the wrong way, we will have a collision that’s not wanted.
JESUS LEADS US TO GO THE RIGHT WAY NOT THE WRONG WAY. Fix your eyes on Him and drive your life in the right direction.
