JUST UNPACK IT

August 25, 2025 • Leave a Comment

Friday night a group of us went to see Tara Leigh Cobble.  She created a bible study called the Bible Recap.  It is an awesome way to do the bible in a year.  We didn’t really know what to expect from the night, but we were excited.

Our favorite part was when Tara Leigh unpacked scripture Psalm 23.  She first told us that we were going to read the scripture 3 times.  I have done that in another bible study, and it is what we should all do as we dissect the verses.

 First Tara Leigh read through Psalm 23.

Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2     He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3     he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

Then the second time she went verse by verse and explained about every word.

There is a reason why I love verse Psalm 23.  There is a book by the title SAFE IN THE SHEPHERD’S ARMSby Max Lucado.   Lauren and Stringer read this book every night when he was battling cancer.  On January 24, 2020, we gathered around Stringers hospital bed and Lauren read Psalm 23, minutes later he passed away peacefully and was in the arms of Jesus completely healed from cancer.

When tara leigh said she was going to unpack Psalm 23 my eyes got teary.  That scripture will always bring back a time that was anxious, scary, unpredictable, not fixable, and just bad and sad.

The third time Tara Leigh read through the scripture she told us this: we are all going to read vs.1-3 but when we begin vs. 4 look at me.

I want to show and explain to you what she did when she read vs. 4-6:

4 Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

Oh, my I thought to myself as she recited the scripture and explained vs. 4-6.  I had never thought of that.  Of course, Stringer’s death was peaceful because God was to his left to his right, he was in front of him, he anoints his head with oil and flowed down him, he followed him, and he would dwell in the house of the lord forever.

The same is for you and for me.  God is always with us.  He is to our left and to our right.  He is in front of us, He anoints our heads with oil that flows all over us and He follows us.  We will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

This week, take a moment to remind yourself to find joy. We need to let God win and kick the devil to the curb. You need to:

1.             Show up for JESUS – Start your day in the Word.

2. Show up for OTHERS – Serve others, whether they are like you or not, whether they annoy you or are difficult to understand. That is what Jesus did; He showed up for everyone.

3. Show up for YOU – You need to fill your cup before you can help fill others’ cups.

WE WILL FIND JOY WHEN WE SHOW UP FOR JESUS, OTHERS, AND OURSELVES.

As Father Mike says, “You pray for me, and I will pray for you.”

And as Tara Leigh says He’s where the joy is.

Have a great week, Cupcake loves you.

Hebrews 12 NIV

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so entangles.  And let us run this race with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.

All it takes is a few passionate people to change the world.
