Last week I was with of my friends, and we were talking about how she is redoing her new space. There are shelves on the wall; however, they are just in the way. Of course, you know I hear three little words when anyone speaks, and I grabbed onto those.
IN THE WAY reminds me of the commercial over ten years ago for the Gieco tire company. The pothole was in the way, and the driver didn’t see it. When the car hit the pothole, it blew the tire out. The car couldn’t go anywhere.
There are things in our lives that are just IN THE WAY and may keep us from going where we need to go. We may trip over them, fall over them, go around them, or they may be a hindrance. It may be a stumbling block or a detour. It may be a protection, protecting us from what is ahead. It may be a pothole that blows out our tires and makes us stop in our tracks. It may be something we don’t even see. Something that is in the way may be blocking your journey to what is next. We have no control over things that tend to be in the way.
All these things can cause frustration, and many are beyond our control. When things are in the way, we have to either wait until they are moved or go around, but there is usually a period of waiting involved.
Is there something in your way? Is something in your way causing you to be frustrated? Is something in your way causing you not to move ahead? Is something in the way that is causing you to wait – to have patience? Have you hit a pothole?
Many things are out of our control. We don’t have the power to move them, but we do have a way to help us maneuver through or around them.
When we have situations and circumstances that seem to be IN THE WAY, we need to remember that Jesus IS THE WAY when things are IN THE WAY.
When Jesus was talking to his disciples on the last night before his betrayal and crucifixion, he said, as in John 14:6, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.’
I found on Got Questions that they dissected this scripture and what they said about -The way – Jesus used the definite article to distinguish Himself as “the only way.” A way is a path or route, and the disciples had expressed their confusion about where He was going and how they could follow. As He had told them from the beginning, Jesus was again telling them (and us), “follow me.” There is no other path to heaven, no other way to the Father. Peter reiterated this same truth years later to the rulers in Jerusalem, saying about Jesus, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). The exclusive nature of the only path to salvation is expressed in the words “I am the way.” https://www.gotquestions.org/way-truth-life.html
Jesus was and is the way when we have things that are in the way. He ISN’T saying that there won’t be obstacles in front of us or things that hinder us, but he is telling us that by following Him, we will have eternal life.
The next time you feel that something is IN YOUR WAY, remember that Christ IS THE WAY.
And remind yourself to do these things:
1. Show up for JESUS – Start your day in the Word.
2. Show up for OTHERS – Serve others, whether they are like you or not, whether they annoy you or are difficult to understand. That is what Jesus did; He showed up for everyone.
3. Show up for YOU – You need to fill your cup before you can help fill others’ cups.
WE WILL FIND JOY WHEN WE SHOW UP FOR JESUS, OTHERS, AND OURSELVES.
As Father Mike says, “You pray for me, and I will pray for you.”
As Tara Leigh says, “He’s where the Joy is.”
Have a great week, Cupcake loves you.
