EMBRACE BEING DIFFERENT
I’M A WEIRDO
JUST BE YOU
You are probably thinking where in the world did she come up with these 3 Little Words; she is a weirdo! There are several different reasons.
One is that Tyler and Barrett have a song they sing or maybe let’s call it a chant. They dance around doing this little dance and say I’m a weirdo, I’m a weirdo! At first, I would always say, “Barrett, you aren’t a weirdo!” But now I say, “We are weirdos, we are weirdos!”
Another time Lauren and I were in Houston, and I saw someone with colored hair that I loved. I asked Lauren, “What do you think people would say if I colored my hair that color?” She replied, “No one would say anything or think anything because that is you being you.”
Looking up weirdo in several dictionaries I found these definitions:
Dictionary.com:Odd, eccentric, deviant, misfit, individualist,
Urban Dictionary:Someone who is different from everyone else, but that’s okay because they’re themselves and they aren’t like anyone else
I love the second definition- someone who is different from everyone else! DUH! Isn’t that how we are supposed to be? Isn’t’ that how God made us? Aren’t each of us to be what God intended us to be? Weren’t we all created with different talents?
GOD CREATED YOU:
Psalm 139:13-14 You alone created my inner being. You knitted me together inside my mother. I will give thanks to you because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this.
(Gods character goes into the creation of every person, so when you feel that you a weirdo remember to respect yourself the spirit is working within you)
Jeremiah 1:4-5 The LORD gave me this message: “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
(long before you were born God knew you, so when you think of yourself as worthless remember God has always thought of you as valuable)
GOD GAVE US DIFFERENT GIFTS AND TALENTS
Romans 12:6-8In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
(God gave us gifts to build up His church, all of our gifts come from Him and none of us have the exact same gift, utilize our gifts wholeheartedly and don’t hold back from God)
1 Peter 4:10-11 NIVGod has given each of youa gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts.
(Peter said everyone has a gift find yours and use it)
2 Peter 1:10 New International Version (NIV)
10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters,[a] make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,
(Peter said what does your life say about your faith, if you are doing what you are called to do you will do well)
Ephesians 4:1 New International Version (NIV)
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you tolive a life worthy of the calling you have received.
(we are Christ’s representatives on earth, Paul challenges to live life worthy of our calling
GOD WANTS US TO DO WHAT HE CREATED US TO DO:
Job 37:5-6 NIVGod’svoice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, Be a mighty downpour. 7so that everyone he has made may know his work, he stops all people from their labor
God told the snow to fall to the earth, and it fell. God told the rain to be a mighty downpour, and it did. God created these things for one thing, and they accomplished the task.
Snow did what it was created for, the rain did what it was created for, and you should do what you were created to do. You were only meant for what God created and commanded you to be. That may be weird and awesome, wonderful, creative, imperfect, messy, and beautiful.
BECOMING YOU
How can you gain you back? How can you let go of the expectations that the world puts on you and regain the essentials to make you what God created you to be?
The world is not a competition. We tend to make it that way, but you cannot be someone God didn’t create you to be. As much as you would like to be your neighbor, it isn’t going to happen. So pack away the “I want to be,” and unpack the “I am who God created me to be.”
The more you come to know God, love God, and glorify Him, the closer you will come to know your purpose.
You are the best version of the weirdo God created, embrace you, and glory God’s name!
