Be Broken Open

October 1, 2018 • Leave a Comment

God works in mysterious ways when we open our hearts and invite Him in. I never have to search for something to discuss on Monday mornings. God lays it out in front of me. He gives me the perfect words at the perfect time.

Lauren called me one day and told me about a story she had read about a girl who talked about her broken heart. She, however, turned the broken heart into something beautiful. She explained how when our hearts are broken, and we put them back together our hearts end up bigger because of the cracks.

My friend Lori came into choir after Sunday school and was so excited to show me what they had discussed. On a video, a young woman explained her feelings after losing her child that was born at 28 weeks. She told how heartbroken she was; however, she said this, “When your heart is broken, and you piece it back together light will shine through the cracks.”

Wow being broken open can be a transformation of our soul if we allow the Holy Spirit into our heart.

Think of the last time you were broken. Were you broken or were you BROKEN OPEN?

Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

CLOSE: a short distance away
SAVES: rescues from a distressing situation

God promises to be close during our difficulties. He won’t abandon us or leave us during our times of trouble. We can lean on Him. He rescues us.

BROKEN VS. BROKEN OPEN

When broken we will have deep pain; we will isolate ourselves and be surrounded by prison bars. Satan loves this. He wants us to stay in the cell. However, Christ doesn’t want us to remain broken. He wants us to be BROKEN OPEN.

Being broken open is a transition. A transition is the process or a period of changes from one state to another.

In the English language, transition words are very important. A transition word is a vital device that improves connections and gives the writing piece a logical structure. It shows the relationships between paragraphs a greater cohesion.

Just like a transition word broken open can do the same thing. It enables us to improve, and it gives us a greater cohesion to Christ. Broken open increases Christ and decreases us. Even though being broken is something none of us yearn for being broken open is vital for us to become more Christ-like.

RUTH & NAOMI
Ruth was Naomi’s daughter in law. Both had brokenness. Naomi lost both her son’s, Ruth was, therefore, a widow.

Naomi and Ruth were going through a transition period. Ruth could have gone back with her family, but she didn’t. Ruth stayed with her mother in law. Ruth was brave, and her faith was strong. She moved forward with confidence and knew that God would provide.

Ruth followed Naomi, and she met Boaz. God had brought them Boaz, and Ruth would marry, have a child, and Ruth was made part of Jesus’s lineage.

Ruth was broken open and was open to following Christ and what His calling was for her. Look at the transition- Ruth chose to be broken open instead of broken and bitter. WOW! God at work.

Take a lesson from Ruth. Be committed to Christ, be a faith-filled follower. Choose to be broken open and realize that you will never be glued back the same.

When we are broken open we will never be glued back the same; however, the transition from broken to broken open will transform our hearts allowing Christ’s light to shine through us.

Hebrews 12 NIV

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so entangles.  And let us run this race with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.

All it takes is a few passionate people to change the world.
