Always Make Memories

July 9, 2019 • Leave a Comment

A

Last week our family of eight when on vacation.  It was a week filled with lots of memory making.  While there one of my dear friends sent me a text and suggested I go watch a movie about a young mother of 4 named Kara Tibbett.

That night I crawled into bed after everyone else had gone to sleep, and I watched the movie. WOW.  The movie is called The Long Goodbye.  Grab your tissue and go watch.

Kara had been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer; her children ranged in age from 14 to 4.  She spent the next several years making memories with her children and her husband.  Kara talked about how she could think back to a time when she was 5 and 6, at that age, she had memories.  So, she worked every day, creating memories that her children would have forever.

None of us are promised tomorrow so why waste time today?  We should all make memories every day!

So just what is a memory? A memory is something that is stored in our brain that makes us who we are.

My mind went to the Bible, and I thought, isn’t this what the Bible is?  It is written by many people and all their memories of that period. We can read the gospels and read the same stories written several different ways from the memories in the minds of the disciples.

I thought to the story of when Joshua took the Israelites, and they crossed into the promised land.

Joshua 4:1-7 New International Version (NIV)

4 When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, 2 “Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe, 3 and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, from right where the priests are standing, and carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight.”

4 So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, 5 and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, 6 to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 7 tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.”

Joshua was a leader without hesitation, and he knew that God was always with Him.  He had his memories tucked away from Moses.  He learned from Moses.

He had one member from each tribe pick up a stone from the Jordan and place it on the bank.  There they made a 12 stone memorial on the west bank of the River Jordan at Gilgal.  It was to serve as a sign and a call to remembrance for all generations for the people of Israel.  When looked upon this memorial would cause the people to remember the Lord’s goodness, when He led them into the Promised Land.

When we look to the Bible, it is filled with memories and prophecies.  We still today read the Bible and learn how to live.  How we are to live today comes from the teachings in the Bible that were first-hand accounts of some and the memories of others that wrote about biblical times.

So even the Bible teaches us to ALWAYS MAKE MEMORIES!  It is important.  It is valuable.  Share with your children, your grandchildren, your neighbors, your friends.  Everyone can learn and make memories.

Make every moment count you never know how many more moments you may have.

Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory. Sayingimages.com

Hebrews 12 NIV

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so entangles.  And let us run this race with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.
